There are a number of areas in which Cornerpond moves far from any semblance of real-life fishing. With nothing other than a basic rod and a worm, I somehow caught a beluga whale weighing about 2,000 pounds and immediately flipped it in a shady whale meat market. Yet, in other areas, the game captures the strangely real fish experience.

Once, while drafting an email, a sudden alert chirped—something massive was biting. The struggle meter showed it would take 900 rapid clicks to land it. This wasn’t just any fish—it was a monster.
My gear wasn’t upgraded enough, but I furiously clicked anyway. As the beast was escaping, I immediately started calculating how much I’d need to upgrade before our next encounter. “Next time, I’ll be ready,” I thought.
This is my first transparent desktop idle game purchase. For most, they all feel empty, even within the genre. Cornerpond does not solve it entirely, but it does fit with the idleness, as fishing really does require patience in real life.
