In Ratopia, every citizen is full of life; Each citizen has their respective wealth and personality. Forget free handouts- your rats must earn their keep and engage in entertainment under your management. It is for you to write the rules, tax them right, and decide if they should grind endlessly to make a dime. Derive society by doling out decisions that will pave the way for either chaos or order. The art style itself is appealing enough; if you can handle food and population, survival is usually not that big of a concern. With this game, you could even win outright without having your strategy necessarily change in accordance with your starting conditions.
Colony sim fans from the likes of Craft the World or Hell Architect or even Oxygen Not Included will find themselves comfortable with Ratopia. What Ratopia does is take elements from these titles while injecting its touch, like granular filter resources, exploration, and dynamic events. It is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Don’t let the cute visuals mislead there is some good depth here. I learn something new with each playthrough (and yes, I need that practice). With every play, I discover some new clever design that I appreciate.
