The Best Upcoming Game Releases for 2024

After a 2023 full of firsts, will there still be something to play for in the coming months? Yes! Here is a list of promising games slated for release in 2024. It consists of “only” 132 elements.

The year 2023 has brought so many great games that there’s no reason to expect a similar eruption too soon. We “owe” this harvest – at least to some extent – to the pandemic, as many productions released in the last 12 months appear to have seen a post-lockdown decline (i.e., without remote work, they likely would have been released sooner). That’s why they accumulate so much.

So it might seem that in 2024 there will be a shortage of good games , especially since GTA VI won’t be released until 2025 and the Game Awards 2023 gala didn’t bring too many new announcements (the biggest one is Monster Hunter: Wilds). Fortunately, the reality looks much more pleasant. Unless we experience a wave of decline, there will be plenty of potentially good games coming out in 2024. The following list is proof of this claim.

I’ve placed in the second section the games and big add-ons that we only know for now that they will be released in 2024 (see the table of contents opposite). Since there are quite a few – 86 to be precise – I’ve divided them into three categories (first, early access start, and early access end). Here, the inclusion of a description (or lack thereof) results from the (non)recognizable nature of a given production and/or its popularity, and the order adopted is random.

I’ll also mention that in the list below, I’ve omitted the items that we think will be released in 2024. To explain this, I’ll use the example of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring. Until the FromSoftware studio announces the date or even the date of its debut, we can only assume that it will be released in 2024 (although it will probably happen, as this add-on has been in development for about 21 months).

The list below will be updated from time to time. If I missed a game that you think is worth keeping in mind, let me know in the comments.

2023 has been full of headlines, which might suggest that it will be difficult to repeat such success in the short term. This is largely due to the pandemic – many of these games would likely have launched earlier if it weren’t for the remote work and associated delays. Nevertheless, there will be no shortage of good games in 2024. Although the biggest announcements, such as GTA VI, are scheduled for 2025, and The Game Awards 2023 ceremony didn’t bring much new stuff, the reality looks much better. If we don’t suffer a wave of delays, we have a lot of potentially good games ahead of us.
